New to it all

Autograss is a non-contact sport that takes place on a oval 440 yard track on a natural soil surface. Due to the close nature of the racing, thrills and spills are never too far away.

Racing takes place in the various classes with up to 10 cars starting on a straight-line grid and racing over 4 to 8 laps. All classes normally race through qualifying heats and finals, and if time permits open races where different classes can race against each other.

The social side of the sport is a very large factor in its appeal and on the Saturday evening before race meetings friends from different clubs all over the country meet up.

Autograss is a true family sport this is due to the fact that husband, wife and children can all compete in the same car.

The North Western National Qualifiers

As you can see from the race dates in the diary, 4 meetings, 2 at North Wales and 2 at Leewood are marked as National Qualifiers. North Wales Autograss is in the North Western League along with Leewood (LM) and Abram (ARC). All North Western drivers who compete at these meetings collect qualifying points. At the end of the 4 rounds the drivers’ best 3 meetings (highest points) go forward. There are 52 clubs across the UK. The clubs are grouped together by area to form 21 Leagues. Each League contains 1 to 5 clubs. Between all the leagues in the country there are 39 places available in each class for the National Championships, the defending Champion takes the 40th place. Each league gets an allocation of places, based upon the total number of drivers in each class; The Leagues then fill these allocations with the highest scoring drivers from the qualifying rounds.

No Autograss event in the country requires pre-registration, with the exception of the National Championships. Any NASA licence holder can race at any NASA race meeting just by turning up on the morning of the event.

Race Licences are available to Men at £65, Ladies at £35, or a Joint (men’s & ladies) licence at £90 and juniors Licences are just £25. Also available are Mechanics Licences at £8 and social Licences at £5. This is a very affordable Motorsport. Once a race licence has been purchased you are able to race at any of the NASA affiliated club nationwide.  Prices quoted are 2006 prices, subject to change.

If racing is not for you there are plenty of ways you can support your local club and help is always required.
